Match Report - U11's narrowly lose to Purton

This was a bit like those 1-1 football draws where the scoreline doesn't necessarily reflect the excitement of the game.
Bidd's who were unfortunately missing one of their top batters this season,Joe Brown, found Purton opening bowlers too hot to handle and we quickly lost 3 wickets.Captain Jack Smith (again !)steadied the ship, which looked as though it was running aground and he was our only significant scorer finishing on 24.Bidds being all out for 45 in the 20th over.Purton only used 4 bowlers,so we never had the chance to face some of their weaker bowling.
However U11's cricket in this coaches eyes is all about everyone getting a chance to participate. So we bowled all 10 players and they all bowled really well and took 6 wickets with Purton only getting the winning run on the 3rd ball of the 20th over.
This was a moral victory in my eyes as we managed to keep their score to practically the same as ours without needing to resort to match tactics.
We fielded excellently with commitment and purpose, focusing right to the last.2 wickets for James Chadwick,1 for Jack,1 for Joe Kitts and 1 for Will Pritchett. An excellent run out also from Joe Kitt's with keeper Quinn Clark.
The other Bidd's players were Jasper Cook, Josh Grobbler, Charlie Knight,Josh Lever,Sam Tasker,Peter Beard(whose highlight of the day was losing a tooth to a tough Kit Kat !).
Well done lads I was very proud you today !!

Match Report - Sunday B versus Burbage (14/8/11)

Stand-in skipper Josh B won the toss and put Burbage in. A steady opening partnership was broken by a bit of sharp fielding by Steve H and from then on in it was the Joe Panes show all the way. Joe was able to consistently swing the ball in to the right-handers and on a dead wicket this was just what was needed. In no time at all Burbage were reduced to 107 for 8, with only two twelve year olds to come in. In the spirit of village cricket Josh instructed the bowlers to respect the situation. However, with an established batsman at one end and an extremely competent blocking youth at the other the bowlers found it very difficult to find any rhythm. In the end the last two wickets put 56 runs on!
The Bs reply was quickly into its stride with 46 scored for the first wicket in only 7 overs. By the time the second wicket went down at 107 it looked like being an easy win and the batsmen were able to play in a fairly relaxed manner as much of the bowling was very friendly. The Burbage total was passed when Mike C paddle-swept the ball to the boundary in the 26th over.
Burbage 163ao (Joe Panes 6-35)
Biddestone 167 for 6 (Henry Entwistle 48, Steve Hayes 31, Matt Hayes 27)

Match Report - President versus Chairman

A somewhat unconventional President's versus Chairman's cricket match brought cricket week to an end. On a dark and damp Friday evening 18 hardy souls entertained a larger than expected crowd with a sparkling display of invention, bravery and, very occasionally, cricket.
Put in to bat the President's Men were able to score a credible 268 with Jamie H top scoring on 23.
The Chairman's Chums quickly made this look a very easy target as they reached 219 off the first over and passed the required score in the 7th over. Top scorers were Shaun L with 37 and Josh B with 27. By the end they had reached a massive 373, running out easy winners by 105 runs.
On the bowling front there were hat-tricks for both Graham H and Tom S and a very impressive 2 for 11 from newly converted left-arm "orthodox" spinner, Shaun L.
The roll of shame has had the following added to it: R Horn, R Foston, L Boulton and M Chrystal, who all managed to achieve a minus score.
The champagne moment was awarded to a father and son. The father for attempting a "quick" single, chancing the fielder would be asleep. The son for a sliding stop, followed by a seated throw that was a direct hit on the stumps, leaving a bemused batsman to verbally question the said fielder's parenthood. Chrystal clear that one. (sorry!)
